Relative guidance of aircraft : analysis and comparison of two control approaches

Abstract : This paper proposes an analysis and comparison study between two different nonlinear control approaches to design a relative guidance mode for civil aircraft. The first investigated approach is based on feedback linearizing control, whereas the second investigated approach is based on optimal control. These two approaches are compared in terms of performances and complexity, including trajectory characteristics and communication requirements. It appears that both approaches are quite promising and deserve extensive studies for further refinement and validation.
